My Immigrant Story and Understanding Generational Trauma

So many of our traumas become intertwined in our values, practices and thoughts through our upbringing. It is important to always be aware of that so we don’t let those inherited traits define us and define the life we want to have. To move forward, we have to have a full 360 understanding of the past. This means uplifting the love that your family taught you, and respecting the pain that they had to go through as well.

On episode 7, I share my family history, our life in the Philippines prior to moving to the U.S. and how the recent events pushed me to better understand the struggles of raising multi-cultural children that my family particularly experienced. Here I also breakdown Systemic Racism, Internalized Racial Bias, and Colorism using examples from the perspective of the Philippines.
