Autolaser VS Ericke
When I found out I was subletting my old studio to this random dude from Norway, I had no idea my future tenant was about to make Spring 2016 so much more exciting.
Autolaser was doing a project with Far East Movement and Transparent Agency at the time. Our friend Denny who used to work at the agency thought my vacant studio in Silverlake would be a great spot for him. Auto's first night on Plata, he took my friends to a foam party and instantly became part of the Plata crew. While our weekends were spent walking around Silverlake hitting every vegan joint in the area and rummaging through racks of old clothing, our nights were a different story. We would pick Auto up from the studio after recording and party in Downtown LA warehouses til dawn. For somebody who's just down to party ALL DAY, he's the chillest, most sincere person I've ever met.
Auto went back to Norway with a new perspective and a fresh new 'do looking very much like Mark Renton from Trainspotting. What stays the same is his hunger for progress and innovation which you can hear in his music. He doesn't fall in one specific category but despite the different genres he plays around with, there's something very distinct about his sound. This guy is not afraid to experiment, scroll through his social media feed - which he manages himself and you'll see how much spunk and swag Autolaser has.
What’s it like growing up in Norway?
Growing up in Norway is pretty chill. Its really safe out here, not so much bad stuff happens here. When I was growing up we just discovered the internet, stuff was changing and music was so easy to find. I grew up on a mountain on the countryside, which is like 1000 people living there. Everyone was doing football or tuning cars except for me. I had alot of interest in art and music. I didn't have access to internet at that age, so I used to find music on my boomblaster. Tuning randomly on AM frequencies and made shitloads of mixtapes. Thats how I found jungle, dnb and electronica. You get a lot of time to kill here, which gave me a lot of time to develop my music and art.
Autolaser in 3 words:
No shame, emotional, coolcat
How is the style in LA different from Norway?
Hard question! For my generation or type of people I would say:
The Eastern-European style is really popular here (tracksuits, duffel bags, sneakers from the 90's..) And more plain fits, with no prints or texts.
For LA I would maybe say its almost the same, but a lot more influenced by the rap superstars I feel. But I feel like LA is more about brands and darker colours.
But today its hard to find the difference because of our access to getting inspo from Instagram and blogs. Everyone is more aware and confident of what they are wearing, no matter where they're from. Which is beautiful.
I think you have the dopest accessories. Where do you shop?
Thank you!!
I usually shop wherever I find something that I like. And I also have something in mind before I go, like a big list of outfits I need to put together. I love going to second hand-stores tho!
Why is Daffy so damn cool?
He was born with swag, and I'm pretty sure he knows that. He's def one of my role models in life.
Are you excited to come back?
Oh you bet I am. LA is my second home?
And I cant wait to get drunk with you guys!
What can we expect from the new Autolaser album?
My new sound is more full songs with vocals now. And it's more emotional and personal. Im very excited to release my new stuff, and I'm more confident now.
Where is your next stop ✈️?
LOOOS ANNNNGELESSSSSSS❤
